When Matt Cutts encourages you to report blackhat SEO optimizers, you can be pretty sure situation is not very good at all. Snitching on others for your own benefit is considered immoral and even penalized in some areas. If you are not good enough to outrank some websites which aren’t using 100% whitehat SEO techniques, than you should change your tactics and get more knowledge to beat your competition.

Now let’s get into a philosophy. I read a Bible when I was a little kid, I remember that a guy called Judas snitched on Jesus, but Jesus didn’t tell his friends about that snitch even though they could easily hang him and save themselves a lot of trouble. Judas got some money as a reward and that was the whole story. Kissing someones butt for his own benefit.

Remember that guy that ranked his 100% BH optimized site for the keyword “car insurance”? SEOmoz were the only ones to publish that and kill that poor guy’s business. It was kind of a miracle he got through with his rankings for almost 2 months and it would be a matter of time before Google penalizes him and there was no need for SEOmoz snitches to kill his business few weeks earlier by snitching on him. For what? For glory? To make themselves look like the only real deal in the SEO market?

Google is a mess and with recent algorithms it is only creating bigger margin between rich webmasters who can afford quality optimization and backlinks (buying backlinks is still considered blackhat) and smaller webmasters who can’t succeed without tons of money to spend on the most fancy stuff.

What exactly is unnatural link building? Where’s the limit between blackhat and whitehat SEO? “Content is the king” right. Make a good content and you will get tons of backlinks on auto pilot from your readers. RIGHT. Content can be pure gold, but it will only be shared all over social media sites and internet, if it is about nude celebrities or shocking UFO discovery scam.

Don’t be a snitch, work on improving your own techniques and find what suits you the best. Snitching on others is as immoral as negative SEO campaign in my opinion. God bless.
